up for auction is HiDezertFab's personal show rhino low hours mainly used for display at shows. it is a 2006 yamaha rhino 660. it has a fully custom 4 seat cage with all options available and some not. custom bumpers front and rear front with fully polished skid plate. cage,bumpers and beadlocks are all powdercoated candy sparkle orange. custom beard front seats and matching 42" rear seat. 5 point crow harness with sewed in shoulder pads all the way around. leg minders and billet steering wheel with crhome shaft cover. cage has many cool options, detatchable ice chest rack and T-grab handles cage also has a custom removable top that matches seats and light bar includes 4 hella 500's that light up the night! the wheels are 14" itp sportlocks with wide offset all the way around. and for performance it has a cdi box and K&N filter kit. rhino runs great. lots of time and money invested. new project forces me to sell.

This is the moment Valentino Rossi crashed out of Sunday's German Grand Prix at the Sachsenring - handing title rival Casey Stoner an increased 32 point lead, despite the Australian limping home in fifth place after tyre problems.
Rossi suffered his first DNF of the season when he lost the front of his Fiat Yamaha moments after lunging inside a hard-to-pass Randy de Puniet for sixth position, on lap five of 30.
More pictures of the former five-times MotoGP world champion's rare mistake can be seen below.
While a downbeat Rossi made his way back to the pits, Dani Pedrosa won his first race of the season, ahead of Loris Capirossi and Nicky Hayden.

Valentino Rossi's 2007 title aspirations took a dent on Sunday at the Sachsenring, when the Italian suffered his first non-score of the season after falling from his Fiat Yamaha.
Rossi started from sixth on the grid, slipped to ninth at turn one, then passed Shinya Nakano and Alex Barros to reach the rear of Randy de Puniet's Kawasaki by lap 3 of 30.
The Italian initially struggled to find a way around the ZX-RR rider, before making a creative lunge through a long low-speed right hander on lap five. Whilst Rossi made the pass stick, he fell just seconds later when he lost the front of his M1 as he tried to complete the turn.
"Unfortunately I made a mistake today and I want to say sorry to everyone - my team, Yamaha and of course all my fans," said a downbeat Rossi. "I lost some places at the start and had to wait a lap before I could start to push, but everything was feeling very good.
"Getting past de Puniet was hard because in the part of the track where it's best to overtake he was very fast. Finally I made my move and I made a great pass but I made a mistake and lost the front," he confirmed.
To make matters worse, Casey Stoner's late race tyre problems meant that the Italian could have gained valuable ground on the young Australian. Stoner began the event 21 points ahead of Rossi, but left Germany 32 points clear - despite limping home in fifth position, his joint worse finish of the year.
"I'm so disappointed because today our package was working very well and we missed the chance to make up a lot of points on Stoner," stated former five times MotoGP world champion Rossi. "We know from Pedrosa and Colin [Edwards'] performance that the Michelin tyres worked well until the end and I'm sad that we weren't there to fight.
"Luckily Stoner was only fifth so the points situation is not as bad as it could have been. I'm very glad we only have seven days until the next race because right now I'm feeling quite bad, but very determined for America!" he concluded, referring to next weekend's US Grand Prix at Laguna Seca, the last event before the MotoGP summer break.

I' m selling my '05 R1. It is in perfect condition, never laid down, no scratches dents or dings. It has always been covered when outside and stored indoors in the winter. Majority of the miles were put on last summer and the engine was broken in using Yamaha's guidelines from owner's manual, also last summer
Alterations:
Front signals shaved and relocated into position light in headlight assy. (body colored plugs were installed in the empty holes, see photo)
Replacement tailight installed with tinted lens and integrated signals

Welcome to my auction. Up for your consideration is this awesome 2002 Yamaha YZF R1 Sport Bike. I am hosting this auction for a family member who is in a position to part with this Bike for personal reasons. He has enjoyed this bike very much during his ownership, and hopes the next person will enjoy it just as much. A recent oil change was done along with a new Metzler Tire for the rear.

Some scratches from the garage wall during movement and a close call with a curb on the left side. Not dropped.
Needed will be a front tire soon, and maybe a little touchup paint for the small scratches. Other than that you can just buy it an ride it.
Added items include a clear brake lens for the rear, ProGrip pad for tank, wheel lock, factory tool kit, tinted windshield, included will be the the KBC helmet (lg) and Power Trip (Chris Carr) jacket (XL) only 6 mos. old.

This is a completely stock and extremely new Yamaha R1. It is in perfect condition and only a few weeks old. There are absolutely no scratches, marks, or streaks on this bike. It looks like it just rolled off the showroom floor. The first service was done at 600 miles, which was recommended in the manual, and I have a piece of paper that has proof of this service that I will give to the auction winner. This bike was broken in according to the manual, with the RPMs kept below 6500 for the first 1000 miles. The bike has been babied from day one. Anyone who buys this bike will love it. This is a clean 04 Yamaha Venture.
CLEAN BIKE! No problems at all! just did oil change, and new headlight bulb (old one worked, but safe to change once a year) Tires are good for alot of miles yet, needs NOTHING, Has hard bags, passenger floor boards, drivers back rest, cruise control. Bike is in great shape, needs nothing to ride for a long time, DONT let the size fool you, it gets great MPG for it size, better than my 1900 road star! You have to ride this bike on a long trip to see what youve been mising! one word COMFORT! (the wife even likes riding now) nothing more then normal wear on this bike NEVER BEEN LAID DOWN!!! OR WRECKED!!! Been on some long trips, LOVE the comfort, and gas milage, and it is with out a doubt reliable!!!! This bike has never left me stranded or broke down! and with the Factory Warrenty you wont have a problem either! Bike needs nothing that i can think of, If you want more pics email me and i will take all the pics you like, just name the part and ill take it!
Has COLD AIR INTAKE, BUBS exh. (gets 41 MPG) sounds great!! has lots of power and you can do a 2 up ride and have plenty of power left!
Only thing i can see on bike that MIGHT need attention in the future would be passenger seat has a tiny (1inch) seem on seat that is showing a little white, also some very minor marks from tie down straps. If interested i will take best up close pics as i can.
Have new job, with company car, dont have room or time to ride like i want to, wife says it has to go, or the boat! (kids want to keep the boat!) Keeping the road star! (had to keep at least one!).

This is a 1999 Yamaha Roadstar 1600, It has a 250mm rear tire on an 18 X 8.5 R C Component wheel. The front wheel is 21 X 3.50 also R C Component, tires are Avon Venoms. Fenders are Jokers Wild with custom work done to the front of the rear fender to accept the seat cleanly. Seat is a looney major dehorn. The tank has extention's molded in. Handlebars are Yamaha Double T fat bars. MaPam 4+ forward controls. Thunderbike rear swingarm purchased from Britt Motorsports. The Bub stubbies sound great. The bike isn't a show bike it is a rider. The fuel gauge isnt working but can be fixed for around $70 bucks and the right front fork seal has a slight leak. Took the bike to the 2006 Motorcycle Mania bike show in Little Rock and got a 1st place trophy. Selling the bike because I'm to busy to ride it anymore, also have a 7 month old baby so responsibilities have taken the place of riding. This bike runs good an rides better than I thought a wide tire would.

I bought the bike brand new in 2003 and have been the only rider. I had the bike painted Sunset Orange with GHOST FLAMES on the lower fairings. I have also added a D & D slip on exhaust, fender eliminator kit, integrated turn signals (front & back). The bike is in excellent condition and shows only minor wear from daily riding. There are a few chips in the paint from rocks, but have been touched up. I have a jar of touch-up paint which is included. Most the miles are highway, driving back and forth from work. The front tire was just replaced. I have some extra parts for the bike that I have accumulated in the last four years. I have a gas tank, radiator, and side fairing.

Up for auction is a 2003 Yamaha FJR 1300. I will start out by telling you the history on this bike. I am the second owner. I bought the bike 11/03 from a local seller who was selling the bike to get a GoldWing. The bike had 7,XXX at the time I purchased. The bike now has 16,3XX. I have been riding various bikes for 25 years and this has been my all time favorite bike by far. The only things that the bike needed was an alarm system and slightly deeper sounding aftermarket muffler. The muffler is made by Staintune and cost was $750.00. Take a close look at the pictures and you will see that the tires are almost brand new Metzler z6 front and back. The back tire has less then 700 miles and the front less then 200 miles. The bike has never been a problem and starts instantly every time all the time. I keep fresh Amsoil synthetic in the engine changing every 2,000 or 3,000 miles. I can understand why this bike has won awards in motorcycle publications for "Best Sport Touring Bike." The additions/changes to this bike include the following: Top notch adjustable alarm system, Thumb operated throttle lock cruise control, Flashers that flash when you apply the brakes (safety item), Cover, Carb synch tool specifically designed for this bike, 12 volt receptacle, Quick connect charger, 4 extra spark plugs for the FJR, Gas tank heat fix insulation was installed, Handlebar risers (lift handlebars about 2 inches for more upright position), Detailed instructions with pictures on how to do all routine maintenance. The bike is very clean and in excellent condition with only a few very small inconspicuous imperfections. The bike did tip over once as I was washing the bike near my shed where I keep it parked. The bike landed gently in a mix of grass and rock. One of the saddle bags had some minor nicks so I decided to have the bag professionally repainted. As it turns out I can not seem to find a decent painter or the paint is just too difficult to match. I took some pictures to show that the paint job is close but close doesn't cut it with me so I am giving up on this project. That is one reason I am selling this bike and the other is almost all my buddies ride Harley so I thought I would buy my first Harley and see if I like them. Let me just say there are pros and cons and leave it at that.

The 19-year-old usually rides an R6 in the Australian Supersport Championship, where he is currently lying second - six points behind the leader - with only one round to go.
Yamaha state that the objective of the test was 'to get an understanding of [O'Halloran's] set-up and riding skills as well as gather quality feedback on the YZF-R6'. However, with his Australian commitments ending soon, O'Halloran - along with previous stand-in Steve Martin - are surely in the frame to partner Broc Parkes for the remaining five rounds.
O'Halloran completed 118 laps during the weekend and finished 13th out of the 21 riders, although ideal times suggested the WSS rookie would have been higher up had he not been delayed on one of his fastest laps. Parkes was third fastest and 1.251secs quicker than O'Halloran.
"This weekend has been tough; I had a track, a bike and different tyres to learn but I think I came to terms with it all very quickly and am pleased with my progress," said Jason. "The team is very professional and everyone has been great at helping me find my feet this weekend. Over the course of the weekend we've made steps forward; I put in a long run today and it felt good, even though I still am not fully used to the tyres.
"In the Australian Supersport series there are only two or three guys consistently fast but in this championship everyone is fast. You need to be fast and good at every turn every lap which is tough. The circuit was enjoyable to ride with some fast sections. It's very technical though; one small mistake could cost a lot of lap time," he added.
Team manager Terrell Thien didn't comment on whether O'Halloran will race this season, stating only that he had a 'promising future'.

This Bike is definately ONE of a kind! I am the original owner of this bike since may of 2005 when i bought it. The bike began its life as Shift red but when i saw the yellow 06 models come out i decided to have the bike stripped down and painted a custom Viper yellow with gold pearl and a very glossy clearcoat with prismatique mixed in to give it a little extra depth. The frame was sandblasted and painted gloss black with custom silver airbrushed graphics and a prismatique clearcoat. All accent pieces were painted Silver to match the frame graphics including the windscreen(The beauty of the paint cannot be given justice with any picture!) The wheels are still the stock paint but I added yellow pinstriping to make them stand out.

Let me say first that I Love this bike! I have put a lot of time and money into this bike, but last time i rode it the chain jumped off the front sprocket and put a hole between the sprocket and the starter. (refer to picture) Due to this and wanting to 'downgrade' to a cruiser i must sell it. I spoke with a couple local shops who told me that they could weld the starter case back up for between $200 and $300. **The motor Does run but Needs to be fixed.**

This is a 2003 Black/Red Yamaha R1 with 2004 modifications including the motor, plastics, rims, sub-frame and all other minor details. It has a hyper pro steering stabilizer, power commander with a customized map, double bubble tinted windshield, black frame slidders and a hot body exhaust. It has a minor scratch on the bottom left clutch side fairing. The reason why it does not have stock Yamaha stickers is because the previous owner customized his own stickers, but i removed the majority of them. There is no residue from the stickers left on the plastics. I am the second owner of this bike. The previous owner is a relative of mine and I personally know that he kept up the bike with regular maintenance as well did I. The only things that need to be done to the bike to have it in showroom condition is to paint the scratch on the bottom left fairing that I mentioned earlier, and grease the chain.

This auction is for a Limited Edition 2003 Yamaha YZF-R1 with only 1,437 original miles. This beauty is in EXCELLENT condition, I would even compare it to as coming straight out of the showroom floor!

This is the Limited Edition R1 which comes with the red and black flames that are on the side fairings. The flames give the bike a very custom, sporty and classy look. Bike has always been garaged, never been out in the rain. Bike has always been babied, never abused, raced, or dropped. Cleaned after every ride.
The exterior of the bike is in MINT condition, there are NO cracks in the fairing, frame, rims, or any other part of the bike. There are NO deep scratches anywhere on the bike (small scuff mark from the helmet on top of the gas tank look carefully in pictures, hardly noticeable) as stated previously the bike is in showroom condition with only 1,437 miles on it. The bike still has the original stickers from the showroom on it (can be seen on the gas tank, and trunk area in the pictures). Tires are fresh with about 95-90% of tread left on both tires. Brakes, fluids, joints, all in good condition. NYS inspection was recently done on it, good for 1 year. You will not need to put a penny into this bike.
Mechanically the bike is in EXCELLENT condition, starts up on the first try with no hesitation. Motor runs strong with no knocks or engine noise. Rossi seals Yamaha's 150th premier-class win with epic ride in Assen
Valentino Rossi put in one of the outstanding performances of his career aboard his one-off liveried 'Cinquecento' Fiat Yamaha at the Dutch TT today, taking a superb victory from 11th on the grid.
His third win of the season is also Yamaha's 150th in total in the premier class of Grand Prix racing. Colin Edwards' was unable to match the outstanding performance of his team-mate today but nonetheless rode a solid race to finish in his grid position of sixth.
After difficulties in yesterday's wet qualifying Rossi was left with a mountain to climb today and, with championship rival Casey Stoner starting from the front row, there was no room for error from the Italian. Rossi made up little ground at the start but after the first couple of laps he found his rhythm and began a spectacular charge to the front, passing rider after rider with a series of bold moves and eventually making his way up to second behind Stoner by lap 12 of 26, setting a string of fastest laps on the way.
The seven-time world champion was then faced with the task of closing a gap of almost two seconds to the championship leader but within just a few laps he had done just that and moved to within striking distance of the lead. It was no easy job to pass the Australian however and he made several unsuccessful attempts before finally making a pass stick through the chicane with three laps remaining, eventually crossing the line 1.909 seconds clear.
Edwards meanwhile was unable to capitalise on his fast race pace and, although he was lapping at a similar pace to the front runners throughout, he was unable to close the gap after being caught in traffic at the start. Rossi's maximum-points haul today closes the gap to Stoner at the top of the standings to 21 points, whilst Edwards' ten points see him hold onto seventh at the half-way point of the season.

"This was an incredible race. I think maybe one of the top five of my career! Clearly starting from 11th is quite lucky for us because I've won a few times from that position, including last year at Sachsenring.
Last night I didn't sleep so well and I couldn't have imagined that the race could turn out like this, in fact I was really a little bit worried after the qualifying and didn't know what to expect today!
Once I got going though I saw that I had a great pace and so I just rode as hard as I could to get past everyone because I knew then that I could come back to Casey. When I finally got there I was quite tired, as were my tyres, plus he was riding very well and it was hard to overtake him, but my M1 worked brilliantly today and in the last few laps I was able to go past and win.
I have to say a big thank you to Michelin and to my team, because today our package was brilliant and I was able to ride at the maximum. I'm so happy to win here in Assen, it's a special place for me and this is a great emotion! It was nice to have a special livery here as well, in the past I haven't been so lucky with new liveries but hopefully today has turned that around! "My start wasn't too bad but I got tangled up in a bit of a jumble through the first couple of laps and Pedrosa passed me. Once I got myself sorted I set off with Melandri and Vermeulen in my sights and I thought I'd be able to get past them relatively easily because my pace was pretty good, but I couldn't quite get close enough for a few laps.
Eventually I got through them both and really got my head down; I was lapping faster than I have been all weekend and actually at one stage I thought the podium was a possibility. I was pushing pretty hard to be honest and I had a couple of close moments but I didn't want to settle for sixth. Things were going okay until there was a stage of the race when things started to feel not quite 100% and I had to slack off a little. Towards the end I started to catch Hopkins again and started to get back to a good pace but unfortunately by then he'd pulled a couple of seconds from me and I just ran out of time. Congratulations to Valentino, he rode an incredible race today."

Rossi closes on Stoner after Dutch win

Former world champion Valentino Rossi has narrowed the gap to overall MotoGP leader Casey Stoner after his Dutch Grand Prix victory early today (NZ time).

Rossi, who cut Australian Stoner's advantage in the world championship standings by five points to 21, took the lead three laps before the end after moving up from 11th place.
In dry but windy conditions Rossi finished in 42 minutes 37.149 seconds ahead of Stoner and Honda's American rider Nicky Hayden, who snatched his first podium position this season.
"It was my best race this year for sure," Rossi told Dutch RTL television. "It was a great, great battle with Casey and an important victory," he said.
"At the end of the race the tires' grip was better but before then we were struggling with the grip and could not get the bike to feel good," Stoner said after the race.
"Also with the faring in the wind I was losing the front several times. I think we were lucky today," said the Ducati rider who crashed during the warm-up.
Australia's Chris Vermeulen, who started from pole position for the third time in his career, came 16th after a crash with France's Randy de Puniet with 15 laps to go.
"It was good to start from pole position, and we made big steps in this morning's warm-up," Vermeulen said.
"Then all of a sudden I was hit from the rear and ended up in the gravel. I didn't know the other rider was there and certainly don't think there was room for him," the Suzuki rider commented on his unexpected crash.
None of the MotoGP races this year have been won from pole.
In the 250cc class, Spain's world champion Jorge Lorenzo won his sixth victory this year. The Aprilia rider began on pole and completed a wire-to-wire victory in 40 minutes 25.904 seconds.
Italian Alex de Angelis was second ahead of another Spaniard, Alvaro Bautista, as Aprilia swept the top three places after a similar achievement in the 125cc earlier on Saturday.
"I was struggling hard to widen the gap with Alex, because Alex was absolutely very fast," Lorenzo told RTL television.
De Angelis has finished in the top four in every race this year and took his fifth podium place of the season on Saturday.
Italy's Mattia Pasini won the 125cc category, his second win in six days. The Aprilia rider began on pole position for the sixth time this season and completed a wire-to-wire victory in 38 minutes 58.171 seconds.
Championship leader Hector Faubel of Spain edged out Hungary's Gabor Talmacsi for second as Aprilia swept the top three places.

MotoGP: Edwards and Rossi take the top spots for the British Grand Prix

Colin Edwards took his second MotoGP career pole at Donington Park today with team-mate Valentino Rossi in second place, meaning that between them the Fiat Yamaha riders have now filled the top grid spot for six out of eight races this season. Edwards, who also took his first ever MotoGP podium here in 2004, put in a perfect lap of 1'28.531, 0.146 seconds ahead of Rossi, with Dani Pedrosa filling the final front-row slot.
Following yesterday's rain, the British weather perked up a little today and this morning the riders were rewarded with their first dry track session. The pair finished the morning in seventh and eighth places with Edwards generally pleased about his initial dry set-up, although Rossi had a slight incident when he ran off into the grass at turn one after exiting from pit lane. This afternoon the track had significantly more grip and times began to fall from the start as the hour-long qualifying session commenced. Rossi's first qualifying lap was good enough to put him on pole and, despite valiant efforts from Casey Stoner, Nicky Hayden and Pedrosa, he held onto the top spot until the very end, when Edwards' second lap saw him edge his team-mate into second place. Tomorrow's race gets underway at 1300 local time and, with showers forecast, the weather could once again play a part in what promises to be another tense MotoGP battle.

Valentino Rossi and Colin Edwards started their Dutch challenge in unusual style today, both sporting a new 1950's-inspired livery on their leathers and bikes. The colourful pair finished the day fourth and seventh in the combined standings after a thankfully dry first day of practice for the Dutch TT.
This morning saw the Yamaha duo second and fourth respectively in the first practice as they tested tyres and worked on bike set-up. They continued with more of the same throughout this afternoon's second practice, dropping slightly down the order but both improving on their times from the morning. Both riders finished the day feeling initially positive about their tyre choices and potential in the dry and, with rain a possibility tomorrow, today's two hours of dry track time could prove crucial. The fastest time of the day was set by Casey Stoner with a lap of 1'37.828, just 0.320 seconds faster than Rossi.
The Fiat Yamaha Team's special Assen livery is inspired by Fiat's famous ‘500' and celebrates the forthcoming re-launch of the iconic car on 4th July, exactly 50 years after it was first launched in 1957. "Today was not too bad! This morning was actually better than this afternoon, even though we were faster in the second session. Our initial base set-up this morning felt quite good but this afternoon we tested some different things and honestly I didn't have such a good feel. Our tyre choice seems to be okay and we have some softer tyres here which should work better in lower temperatures, as we should be able to get the heat into them faster. We've started out okay today but we need to improve some things so I really hope it's not going to rain tomorrow. I really like my new livery, it's fun and different and the colours especially are something you don't usually see on the racetrack! The Fiat 500 is a famous Italian icon so it's good to be able to celebrate the new version of the car in this way."

Just days after safely negotiating the waters of a soaking wet Donington Park, the Fiat Yamaha Team continue their adventures this week with a trip across the North Sea to Holland, in preparation for the ninth round of the MotoGP World Championship. The 77th edition of the Dutch TT at Assen sees Valentino Rossi chasing a 26-point gap to Casey Stoner at the top of the standings with ten rounds remaining of what promises to be a tightly fought battle for the most prestigious crown in motorcycle racing.

With two of the last three races having been hit by rain, Rossi's principal hope for this weekend is good weather, having charged to victory in the most recent dry race at his home circuit of Mugello. The Italian is keen to build on recent developments made with his YZR-M1 machine and Michelin's slick tyres at a circuit where he has celebrated victory on five occasions - including three of the last five races there in the premier-class.
Rossi's team-mate Colin Edwards is himself a previous Assen winner. The Texan took three victories there during his days in the World Superbike series, including a double win on his way to the title in a gripping climax to the 2002 season. Last year he came within a few metres of his finest career moment yet, leading the MotoGP race from Nicky Hayden into the final chicane, only to fall and see a first Grand Prix victory slip from his grasp in truly dramatic fashion.
Despite major changes to Assen's unique layout last year, it remains one of the most technically and physically demanding circuits on the calendar for the MotoGP riders. With barely a straight piece of tarmac in sight, handling is a major focal point due to high-speed chicanes and dramatic camber changes - the latter, in some places, resembling the profile of the public roads that the original circuit was based around 76 years ago.

American Colin Edwards has snatched pole position from Yamaha team mate Valentino Rossi in the final seconds of qualifying at the British Grand Prix.
The double Superbike world champion, still seeking a first MotoGP win after 73 starts, lapped the dry circuit in one minute 28.531 seconds to beat Rossi by 0.146 seconds at one of the Italian's favourite tracks.
Spaniard Dani Pedrosa, last year's winner from pole position, completed the front row on a Honda with American world champion and team mate Nicky Hayden in fourth place with his best grid position of the season.
Ducati's Australian championship leader Casey Stoner, 14 points clear of Rossi after four wins in seven races and fastest in the wet on Friday, qualified fifth.
"Today it worked out pretty good," Edwards said. "At the start of the session it looked like it could or could not rain and it held off.
"I felt comfortable ... You take a lot of risks, that's basically the only way you get on pole anyway, but it felt good," added the 'Texan Tornado'. "The bike's fast, we got the package right." Apart from having to produce the best ride of his MotoGP career to secure his first win on Sunday, Edwards will also have to overcome a pole position jinx.
Rossi, quick to congratulate Edwards at the end of the session, said he had been slowed by American Kurtis Roberts on the KR machine.
"On my good lap I found Roberts, who was going very slow on the (racing) line, so I had to close the throttle and lost a little bit," he said.
"But anyway to be second is okay, especially after the disaster of this morning," added the Italian, who has won seven times at Donington but struggled in final practice. "Now we just have to hope for good weather."
Italian Alex de Angelis took his first pole position of the season in the 250cc category, with championship leader Jorge Lorenzo of Spain second-fastest.

DONINGTON, England : American Colin Edwards grabbed a surprise pole position from Yamaha team-mate Valentino Rossi in qualifying for the British Grand Prix at the Donington circuit on Saturday.

The 33-year-old Texan, still looking for his first win in MotoGP, had been fourth on the grid in the final seconds of qualifying but finally managed to clock a one minute 28.531 lap to beat Italian Rossi by 0.146.
It was the second pole position of Edwards' career after Le Mans.
Spaniard Dani Pedrosa finished third, 0.332sec back, to complete the front row, with Honda team-mate and world champion Nicky Hayden in fourth, 0.494sec behind Edwards, on the second row.
Pedrosa had looked favourite for pole until making the same mistake on two successive laps on the circuit which was finally dry after riders complained of slippery conditions after incessant rain on Friday.
Championship leader Casey Stoner of Australia was fifth on his Ducati.

Valentino Rossi starts his fourth campaign as a Yamaha Factory Team rider in 2007 with the clear target of recapturing the MotoGP World Championship title after being dethroned by Nicky Hayden last year. After winning two consecutive World Championships with Yamaha in 2004 and 2005, following on from three previous back-to-back title successes, Rossi finished runner-up to the American despite scoring ten podiums and winning five races - more than any other rider. Now the record-breaking Italian, widely regarded as the finest motorcycle racer of his generation, starts the season without the crown to defend for the first time in five years.
Rossi’s five wins in 2006 took his premier-class career tally to 58, leaving him within striking distance of the legendary Giacomo Agostini’s all-time record of 68 – another enticing target for the 2007 season. For the third consecutive campaign Valentino will be ably assisted by his trusted team-mate and great friend Colin Edwards, as the pair apply their highly effective development partnership to Yamaha’s all-new 800cc machine and attempt to regain the Manufacturers' and Teams' titles they won together in 2005.
Rossi's World Championship debut came at the Malaysian Grand Prix in 1996 and he finished his first international season in 9th place with one race win. The following year he became the youngest ever rider to win the 125cc World Championship, winning eleven races along the way with Aprilia. The pattern continued when he moved into the 250cc class, taking second place in his first year before becoming World Champion in 1999, once again with Aprilia.
In 2000 he entered a new phase of his career when he joined forces with Honda in the 500cc class. He proved his worth once again by finishing second, before becoming the last ever 500cc World Champion in 2001. Rossi held onto his crown four the next four consecutive seasons, taking the MotoGP World title in 2002 and 2003, before moving to Yamaha and winning again in 2004 and 2005.
Rossi made history by moving to Yamaha in 2004 and winning the season-opening Grand Prix in South Africa, becoming the first rider in the history of the sport to win back-to-back premier class races for different manufacturers. He went on to win nine out of 16 races, finally clinching the World Championship title, Yamaha's first for 12 years, with victory at the penultimate Grand Prix in Phillip Island. A final win at the Valencia Grand Prix also ensured that the Yamaha Factory Team won the team title. Rossi followed up that triumph with a season of unprecedented success in 2005, when he successfully defended the title once again with a total of eleven race wins and five pole positions - only finishing off the podium once.
Rossi turned 28 in February 2007 and remains the youngest rider to have won World Championships in all three classes. He continues to have the support of his long-standing Crew Chief, Jeremy Burgess, who moved from Honda to work with him at Yamaha Factory Racing.

It was only right that the rider who has had most direct interest and influence on the development of the M1 MotoGP machine should be one of the first to ride the finished 2007 R1 - containing the DNA of the M1 itself.
Valentino was clearly enthused by the abilities of the newest R-series product, finding it well suited to the fast layout of the Losail circuit in Qatar. “First impressions are great,” said Vale. “I think it's a good step from the previous R1. The first difference in the feeling on the track is from the engine. It has a lot more power from the bottom; when you open the throttle the engine is more eager to accelerate. From that point of view it's a lot easier to ride. Also, there is a very different feeling from the chassis. The bike feels a lot smaller, more compact, so there is a gain in agility; it is also more precise at the entry of the corner.”
Rossi also sensed the improvements that the adoption of the new YCC-T throttle has brought, especially as it is another offshoot of the MotoGP experience. “This system helps a lot because the connection between the throttle and the engine is a lot closer - and is better,” he asserts. “Like this the bike gives more feeling during acceleration and it is easier to open the throttle earlier and go faster. Now, in MotoGP, this aspect is very important because the horsepower is high and the way the engine delivers power is most important thing to make a good lap time. Especially when the tyres start to slide. They have taken these ideas and adapted them for the R1. In acceleration the engine is more closely matched to the throttle, so it is more easy to control the power.”
The influence of the two-stage variable inlet YCC-I system is also plainly evident to Rossi, as it plays its part in smoothing out the engine's delivery. “This is a big advantage because I think when a bike has this amount of horsepower normally we need to work a lot with the engine, but on this bike the acceleration remains very easy to use. The power arrives at a very constant curve. This is important for the track but especially for the road, where you ride more slowly, where you can have some bumps and surface changes. So the feeling of the throttle is very important.” Rossi even goes as far as to say that the cornering abilities of the R1 are up there in M1 territory. “It is very close to the M1 - it is possible to go through the corners very fast.
The bike is stable in braking and the front gives a good feeling for corner entry, so you can go in very fast, and the position of the bike at maximum angle is comfortable for the rider. You have a lot of feedback from the tyres, from the surface, to understand the limit and the amount of grip of the track. Also the clutch is very important on the MotoGP bike so they have taken the technology from the M1 for this part as well. This aspect is very different from the previous bike, because the slipper clutch needs to be used in a different way. But it never locks the rear tyre and never starts vibrating. The man in charge of the development of the new R1 is project leader Toyishi Nishida, and during the launch of the new machine in Qatar, Insider caught up with him to find out why racing was the driving force behind the new R1's design. All the wide-ranging racetrack influences in the R1's design are a result of a firm philosophy to continue the no-compromise design of the original R-series machines. As Project Leader Toyishi Nishida explains, “My priority was to get a much higher level of riding pleasure, particularly on the racetrack, and also make improvements to the power curve. So the technical mentality was to get much greater feedback from the road and much higher controllability on the exit of the corners. And, of course, to get much higher RPM performance.”
Of all the individual advances learned from the MotoGP experience, Nishida put special emphasis on two particular engineering initiatives. “The R1 was inspired by the M1 in the YCC-T system and also the rigidity balance of the new chassis,” said Nishida. Going into more specifics of what really makes the R1 the ultimate racetrack machine while maintaining the usability in every possible traffic situation, Nishida explains, “The three main areas were the engine, the chassis and the bodywork.”
It was not just about top end power with the engine, even though the original aims of more revs and a higher output were successfully achieved. “Regarding the engine, we focused our improvements on the mid-range torque and making a smoother power delivery right up to high RPM. In terms of the chassis package, rider feel was prioritised to make the riding experience more rewarding and we focused on improving feedback from the road,” said Nishida, before confirming that the new R1's bodywork changes are a lot more than a makeover. “In terms of bodywork we focused on achieving much smoother airflow, and more efficient cooling effects,” he said, in summation.

Fiat Yamaha’s Valentino Rossi became the first rider ever to win his home grand prix six years in a row with a victory over Repsol Honda’s Dani Pedrosa in the Italian Grand Prix at Mugello.

More importantly, Rossi’s second win of the year narrowed his championship deficit to Marlboro Ducati’s Casey Stoner, fourth today. Stoner’s lead stands at nine, 115 to 106, after six of 18 rounds. Pedrosa sits third with 82.
"So is impossible to explain I think," Rossi said. "Was a difficult race because I make a small mistake in the start and I have some problem for take my rhythm in the first laps.
"But I have to say thank you to everybody; to Michelin, because today the tires work very well; to Yamaha, and especially to all the guys work with me from Japan. To all my team, Jerry (Burgess), and all the guys that always trust in our power. I have to say thank you to all my friend that always stay with me and coming from Tavullia to see the race, to all my crowd, to all my friends, to all my good friends. But especially to all this fantastic crowd at Mugello that give to me always a lot of pushing, a lot of power and this victory is dedicated for all the fans."
Rossi didn’t start well, but quickly began his move through the field. He took the lead from Pedrosa on the ninth of 23 laps and was never headed.
Pedrosa stuck with him until the final third of the race when Rossi began to edge away. He gapped the Spaniard by over a second on the 19th lap and kept it there to the finish. The margin of victory was 3.074 seconds.
"Well, I think it was important," Pedrosa said. "I think we had a good weekend. But we must improve still the second part of the race as the races before. Still ,we have some weak points there. I hope to do even better in Barcelona, so looking forward."
Stoner was part of the early mix. The world championship leader led the first three laps before being dropped to second, then third on lap seven. Much of the race he was involved in a struggle with Rizla Suzuki’s John Hopkins and Pramac d’Antin Ducati’s Alex Barros. Barros passed Hopkins on lap 17 and Hopkins soon fell off the pace. He finished alone in fifth, the best ever finish for a Suzuki four-stroke at Mugello. The previous best was tenth.
After dropping Hopkins, Barros went after Stoner. The Brazilian made his move on the 21st of 23 laps, but Stoner fought back. The pair raced to the flag with Barros taking his first podium of the year by .056 seconds. His last podium was a third in the 2005 British GP at Donington Park.
"I’m really happy back in the podium in MotoGP," Barros said. "I know this result is come I think at the best moment. So is the house for Ducati and for Pramac also. I need to say thank you for all the team helping me a lot. So I know I can do that. I showed the good results in the class during three classes. I have unlucky. But I think now the unlucky things is stopped. The next circuit or so I like very much."
Barros became only the third rider ever, after Mick Doohan and Valentino Rossi, to pass the milestone of 2000 premier-class points with his third.
Following fifth-placed Hopkins came Honda Gresini’s Toni Elias. He passed fellow Italian Loris Capirossi (Marlboro Ducati) on the final lap for sixth.
Then came Chris Vermeulen, the Rizla Suzuki rider leapfrogging Honda Gresini’s Marco Melandri on the final lap to take eighth.
Repsol Honda’s Nicky Hayden was tenth and only .368 secs. in front of Pramac d’Antin Ducati’s Alex Hofmann.
Fiat Yamaha’s Colin Edwards was a disappointing 12th.
Team Roberts didn’t get a boost from doubling its team. Kurtis Roberts was out on the fourth lap and Kenny Jr. finished in last place.

ROSSI SALVAGES FRONT-ROW START FROM SOAKING QUALIFYING IN MUGELLO

Fiat Yamaha Team rider Valentino Rossi will launch his quest for a sixth consecutive home victory from the front row for tomorrow's Italian Grand Prix, having kept his cool during a rain-battered Qualifying session to take the third grid spot. Despite some improvements to his race-pace during this morning's dry practice session, his team-mate Colin Edwards continued his unhappy relationship with Mugello this afternoon and could only manage a lowly 16th.
A torrential rainstorm during the preceding 125cc session meant the MotoGP Qualifying got underway with riders on wet-weather tyres, although the track began to dry quickly with the help of a strong wind and lap times soon improved accordingly. As they approached the half way point the heavens opened again and the riders were forced to take shelter in the pits until the storm abated.
Luckily it was short-lived and Rossi, who was currently sitting in eight position, got back out as quickly as possible and set about making the most of the remaining ten minutes. On full wet-weather tyres the Italian put in a consistent run of laps, getting faster and faster as the track began to dry out and clocking his best time of 2'01.695 on his penultimate lap, just 0.3 seconds than last week's race winner Chris Vermeulen. Pole position went to series-leader Casey Stoner, who put in a lap of 2'00.359 just before the storm when the track was at its driest.
Edwards continued to struggle throughout the session and 16th place will see him head the sixth row of the grid for tomorrow's 23-lap race, which gets underway at 1400 local time.

"I'm very happy about this front row because today was really a bit of a ‘casino' with the weather and I think anything could have happened! We started off with wet tyres and actually everything felt quite good, then it began to dry out very quickly because of the wind. I was actually a bit unlucky because I put a harder rear in to try to do a faster lap on the drying track just as it began to rain again in the middle of the session. I was in eighth place and as soon as it stopped raining again I knew I had to get out and try to improve my time. With full wets the bike worked very well and I was able to keep on doing faster and faster laps as the track dried out. We found a good tyre for the rain and actually it seems here we're okay in the wet and the dry. Anyway I really hope it's dry tomorrow, for the riders but especially for all the fans who are camping on the hillside. I think in the rain it's maybe not so much fun! It's important to be on the front row here, now we wait and see for the weather and hope for a good race - rain or sun!"

"Honestly I don't know what to say, I've always been good in the wet but this year it's just not working out at all. I'm losing everything on the corner entry; it's basically the same problem as I had in Le Mans. In the wet one or two seconds off the pace can be explained but six seconds? That's not right and I'm seriously disappointed. It seems I never have any luck at this track. Starting from 16th gives me a massive hill to climb in any conditions but I would definitely prefer it to be dry because I feel like we at least made some steps forward this morning with our dry set-up."

"Valentino came out of what was a very difficult session with a great result, it's really important for him to be starting from the front row for his home race. I think he and his team did a brilliant job once they found him down in eighth place when it rained. He did well to stay out there and keep pushing on a drying track with wet tyres and he deserves to be on the front row. Colin still has some difficulties in the wet and now we will work hard to try to fix them and make him happier in these conditions. We're hoping for a dry race now, it will be better for everyone!"

MotoGP: Rossi second in scintillating Spanish thriller

Valentino Rossi rode his Yamaha M1 to a fighting second place in Catalunya today after an exhilarating battle with Casey Stoner, the Australian eventually taking the flag just 0.069 seconds ahead of the Fiat Yamaha rider after a nail-biting final few laps. Rossi 96th premier-class podium gives him yet another record as it takes him above Mick Doohan as the rider with the most podium finishes ever in the top class of Grand Prix racing. His team-mate Edwards suffered from grip issues throughout and was unable to stick with the leading pack from sixth on the grid, eventually finishing in tenth.

After starting from pole, Rossi found himself down in fourth on lap one and was then forced to push hard in the first three laps to get past John Hopkins before he could begin to close the gap to Dani Pedrosa, who was by then following Stoner in second place. On lap eleven of 25 Rossi made his move on the local favourite, the cheer from the grandstands proving that there was however a sizeable Italian element amongst the 112,600-strong crowd. Rossi soon started looking for passing opportunities on Stoner, making his first successful bid at the end of lap eighteen before relinquishing the lead back to the Australian on the next lap. From then on the fans were treated to some vintage wheel-to-wheel racing from the pair, with Pedrosa also in close contention, and an incredible number of passes made in several different parts of the track. Going into the penultimate lap however Stoner made his decisive move and Rossi was unable to peg him back, despite throwing every effort at it. Despite a promising qualifying performance yesterday, today' was not Edwards' day and he slipped several places at the start and ran a lonely race further down the order, although a last-lap pass on Nicky Hayden moved him up one position to take tenth and six points.
Twenty points for Rossi today m eans he is now fourteen behind Stoner after seven races, whilst Edwards remains tenth in the standings. After two races on the trot there is now a ten-day break before the MotoGP circus heads to Donington for the Grand Prix of Great Britain, another of Rossi's favourite hunting grounds.

"What a race! Even if I'm disappointed not to win, it's a great emotion to be part of a race like that and fantastic fun. It really was an amazing battle to the end with many wonderful overtaking manoeuvres by both of us in all different parts of the track! Unfortunately I lost a bit of time at the start and then it was quite hard to pass Hopkins because he was fantastic on the brakes. Then with Stoner it was a great fight and honestly I couldn't have tried harder to win, but he was a very hard rival. There were some places were we could have been better today, not just on the straight but also in some corners, but anyway it was a great experience and it will help us to understand what we need to do to keep on improving. Yamaha and Michelin are working very hard and the fact that we could fight like this today to the very end showed this. Of course I'm sad because I've won a lot of times here in Montmelo and I wanted to win again, but like I said, I don't think I could have done anymore today! We know that we can beat Stoner but today he rode like a god and he's a fantastic rival, so congratulations to him."

Rossi not concerned about defeat

Valentino Rossi remained upbeat despite being beaten by title rival Casey Stoner in the Catalan Grand Prix.

The Italian had cut Stoner's championship advantage from 21 to nine points by winning at Mugello a week ago, but Stoner's win in Spain stretched his lead back up to 14 points with 11 rounds remaining.
Rossi and Stoner swapped the lead countless times during the spectacular Barcelona race, before Stoner took victory by just 0.069 seconds.
"There was some incredible overtaking between us in a lot of different places," said Rossi.
"I enjoyed the battle a lot, I tried very hard."
Rossi said the close fight with Stoner had given him a chance to learn more about the Yamaha's weaknesses relative to the Ducati.
"When I arrived (in second), I tried to attack and go in front, but we had some parts where we lost too much," he said.
"But anyway it's a good experience for knowing what we have to do to go faster.
"The second place here is not so bad and the championship is very long."

Roberts start work on new chassis

Team Roberts plan to introduce a new chassis for the US Grand Prix in July in a bid to get back on terms with the rest of the MotoGP field.

Kenny Roberts Jr finished sixth in last year's championship for his family team, who use a unique self-built chassis powered by a Honda engine.
But the team have fallen to the back of the pack this year, qualifying 18th for all bar two races, and never finishing higher than 13th.
Roberts will introduce some upgrades for the forthcoming British GP, but have already started work on a completely new chassis design that is set to debut at Laguna Seca next month.
"It's apparent that the motor doesn't accelerate, but then we have no grip," said team principal Kenny Roberts.
"I think that we are learning, but it's going to take six weeks to build something different.
"We just have not been anywhere all year, because it doesn't work, it just doesn't work. When they turn it on, it just doesn't go.
"Of course the motor isn't the best. But it's still not as bad as what we're riding.
"The tyres I think are actually a little more of a problem than the motor, because we can't seem to get grip. So either the chassis is not getting grip or the motor's not getting grip, but we don't know which one that is."
Kenny Jr's younger brother Kurtis has been drafted in from the AMA Superbike series to ride Roberts' spare bike in the last two GPs to provide additional feedback.
The siblings had a race-long battle in Catalunya, with Kurtis staying ahead for much of the distance before they took 16th and 18th, split by Carlos Checa.
"I'd never seen them race like that at this level, of course, but it would be better if we were racing further up the field instead of where we are at the moment," said their father and team boss.
Kurtis will step down from the team at Donington Park to allow British Superbike frontrunner Jonathan Rea to make his MotoGP debut on Roberts' spare bike.

Rossi: victory is big confidence boost

Valentino Rossi believes his sixth consecutive Italian Grand Prix victory will boost the Yamaha team at a critical time in the championship battle.

The Italian reduced Casey Stoner's points lead from 21 to nine points at Mugello, and is now full of confidence for the forthcoming races.
"Now we have three races in four weeks - but this was the first, and we won, so it's a big motivation and a big help for the team and for me," said Rossi.
"Now we go to good tracks - Barcelona, Donington Park, Assen - that I like a lot, and we hope to get some other good results.
"The championship is very long and for sure the battle will go to the end."
Rossi said he remained calm after dropping from third to eighth at the start, because he was confident he had the pace to recover.
"I released the clutch too fast and I had a wheelie, but I lost maybe half a second and I arrived at the first corner just eighth," he said.
"At the beginning it was difficult, because it's easy to make a mistake when overtaking. But I tried to stay quiet, because I know I have a good rhythm, and step by step I tried to overtake."
He reckoned that his Yamaha remained at a disadvantage on the straights, but was extremely happy with its pace in the circuit's fast corners.
"My bike loses a little bit with the engine on the straight," Rossi said.
"I have some problems on the exit of the last corner, but I have very good speed from the first corner to the last. I was able to do a lot of overtaking in the beginning.
"Once the tyres got up to temperature, I was very, very fast, and at the end it was a good fight with Dani (Pedrosa).
"Today it all worked very well and I was able to be very precise and not make any mistakes."

Valentino Rossi believes that Yamaha are now in a position where they can compete for victories at every circuit for the rest of the season.

Rossi has struggled to match the pace of Ducati's Casey Stoner in some races this year, but after winning on home soil in Mugello last weekend, the Italian is expecting to be more of a match for Stoner over the rest of the season.
Ducati's power advantage should give Stoner a good chance this weekend at Barcelona, but Rossi is confident that his machinery will be strong enough.
"Stoner will be strong, especially down the long straight, but we have worked really hard to close the gap to our rivals, and I think we are ready to battle with them at every track now," said Rossi.
However, the 28-year-old is also expecting fierce competition from Dani Pedrosa, who heads to his home race on the back of a strong second place finish at Mugello.
"Dani Pedrosa will also have a lot of support this weekend and I expect him to be a difficult rival once again after such a good race at Mugello," he added.
Yamaha team boss Davide Brivio believes that the team's victory last weekend marked a turning point in their season, and he added that the team was once again full of confidence.
"We have done a brilliant job after some problems that we had and Valentino's victory in Mugello showed that we are in a position to fight," he said.

Darryll King will cross the Tasman once again this weekend to tackle round five of the Australian Motocross Championships, Nokia MX Nationals, at Murray Bridge, SA.

King raced the series opener in April, in a “keep-the-seat-warm” role for the injured Matt Moss in the Craig Dack Racing Yamaha Team. On that occasion the former champion finished an impressive third outright for the day. This time it will be Cheyne Boyd that he fills in for as the Victorian still recovers from a broken leg.
“It’s all good for me to get good competition like this as I build towards defending my New Zealand titles,” said King.
King was Australian motocross champion for three seasons, in 2001, 2003 and 2004. He was also twice a 500cc world championship runner-up, in 1997 and 1998.
Regular CDR/Nokia/Yamaha team-members Matt Moss and Ford Dale have both had their seasons interrupted by injury, and their sites set on a podium after a steadying break which has allowed them to refocus and regain strengths.
Sitting shy of the top ten standings, their goal is to acquire as many points as possible as the run home begins.
"I feel as though I am back at full race fitness and able to run a full moto from start to finish, it has been a good break, and has given me the opportunity to focus on the job at hand," said Moss.
"After missing the first two rounds I am sitting back behind the top ten, my goal is to be pushing to make up placings as the season has now reached half-way." Moss added.

Aussie double in Britain as Bayliss and West win races.

World superbike champion Troy Bayliss has recharged the defence of his crown, tip-toeing to victory in treacherous wet conditions at Silverstone in England.
Australians dominated the only race able to be staged at the British round seven of the series, with Bayliss's compatriot Troy Corser snaring third behind Noriyuki Haga.
And Gold Coast rider Anthony West used his wet-weather skills to claim a 33-second victory in the shortened Supersport race.
So bad were conditions that some superbike riders failed to survive the warm-up lap.
Bayliss and his Ducati slithered to his third win of the year as the championship heads to Misano in two weeks' time with Honda's James Toseland still the leader on 237 points.
But the chasing group is tightening with Haga second on 214, followed by Suzuki's Max Biaggi (201), Bayliss (189) and Corser (151).
Toseland was a brave eighth at Silverstone after crashing and remounting on lap four, but he was never able to catch the leaders.
At the start, 38-year-old Bayliss seized the initiative from pole position before Corser, in his first wet race on the Yamaha, pushed him aside on lap four.
The Wollongong rider then held the lead until a slight mistake on lap 10 let Bayliss sneak back in front and cling on to win.
Bayliss has now won five races in a row on the circuit.
"The race went really well today," he said. "It's a shame about the second one. It looked as if it was easing off a bit, but the track had a lot of water in some of the corners - mud and everything.
"The first part particularly had a lot of water on it and when you arrive at that chicane, it's in fifth gear and you're not in control when you arrive there aquaplaning. That's just silliness.
"Anyway, we move on and we're happy to have closed the gap down on James [Toseland] a little bit with the win."
Of the other Australians, Honda teammates Karl Muggeridge and Josh Brookes crashed out. In Supersport, West vaulted to seventh in the standings after a great exhibition of wet-weather riding. Indianapolis: Australian Ryan Briscoe finished fifth in the rain-hit Indianapolis 500 on Sunday behind Scottish winner Dario Franchitti. Brisbane-born New Zealander Scott Dixon finished second ahead of Brazilian dual champion Helio Castroneves.
The 91st running of the classic was interrupted by rain for more than three hours shortly after the midway point and was ended by a downpour after 166 of the scheduled 200 laps.
Franchitti became only the second Scotsman to win the oval classic and the first since Jim Clark took the chequered flag in 1965 at the famed 2.5-mile (4km) Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Briscoe had started from seventh place on the grid and remained in the top 12 during most of the race, which was interrupted by several safety car intervals as a result of accidents. American Sam Hornish Jr was fourth, narrowly beating home Briscoe.
Tony Kanaan, who finished 12th, was leading when rain caused an extended delay after 113 laps, but when racing resumed, Franchitti took the lead and hung on to win. A cut tire forced Franchitti into a risky fuel strategy, staying out when rivals pitted just before the rain stopped the race.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — All eyes of the motocross world were focused on The Hangtown Classic. The first of 12 rounds for the AMA Toyota Motocross Championship — where the best motocross racers from the United States and other countries arrive to bang bars and rub plastic to compete for the title.
The action began on Saturday, May 19 with timed practice in order to qualify for Sundays two moto format. The Lites class “250f” were the first out on the track for “timed qualifying” and it did not take long for things to get heated. Ryan Villpoto of Pro Circuit Kawasaki and Jason Lawrence of Boost Mobile Yamaha began to mix it up passing each other and locking bars. As time went on, both riders ended up on the ground and a brawl ensued. The AMA officials stepped in and sorted everyone out — eventually everybody calmed down and focused on racing.
In the Motocross class “450f” James Stewart of Team Kawasaki put down a 2.15 for the fastest qualifying time. Cole Siebler from Emmett put down a 2.27, which was enough to step into the Sunday show.
Cole’s confidence level is high at this point after finishing 20th overall in the Ampd Mobile Supercross Series last winter.
However for Siebler the week prior to the race was stressful, without a ride for the outdoors he signed with Tamer Kawasaki on the Tuesday before, and had no saddle time before the event. This created unknown territory for Siebler and his mechanic Max to be able to make necessary adjustments to the equipment. At the professional level it is critical to have the proper settings before you hit the races.

After the disappointment of Sunday's rain-lashed French Grand Prix, Fiat Yamaha Team riders Valentino Rossi and Colin Edwards have been back on board for two busy days of testing at the Bugatti circuit in Le Mans. With a run of six key races coming up in just two months, the team have worked on an array of things as they look to give themselves the best possible package with which to fight over the most intense part of the season.As ever much of the test was given over to tyre testing with Michelin, the new tyre regulations this year meaning that post-race tests such as these hold even more importance for the French manufacturer. The riders also tried some new chassis modifications in order to improve the stability of the M1 and Rossi also tested some new engine parts. The Fiat Yamaha Team now have just over a week off before the first of two ‘home' races this year - the Grand Prix of Italy in Mugello on June 3rd.

"We lost a bit of time yesterday and today due to the weather, but anyway we've got a lot done and it's been a very productive couple of days. We've tested a lot of tyres for Michelin with both riders working in different ways and we've found two good directions to develop. Yesterday we also tried some new chassis parts in order to improve the stability of the bike and we think we've made some small improvements to our overall package. Valentino also tried some new engine modifications and we've seen a small improvement, so we think this is something we can bring to Mugello. In general it's been a very valuable test for us and it's also the last chance we'll have for two days consecutive testing until Brno in August. We've got a very busy and very important part of the season coming up so it's been good to have this time to work away from the pressure of a race weekend."

James Toseland slides off at Silverstone

Toseland scrambled back onto the track and finished eighth
James Toseland climbed back on his bike after an early crash to finish eighth at a rain-hit Silverstone and limit the damage to his World Superbikes hopes.
Troy Bayliss won the day's only race after the planned second race was cancelled as the conditions worsened.
Nori Haga's second place enabled him to close the gap on championship leader Toseland to 23 points with Max Biaggi, who finished sixth, dropping to third.
Toseland skidded out on lap three but rejoined the race in 18th place.
Troy Corser claimed the race lead soon after but Bayliss hit back straight away to reclaim the advantage which he never surrendered.
Australian Corser faded to third and Haga could not quite get on terms to make a bid to pass for the lead.
Toseland worked his way through the pack and was close to the top 10 when he benefited from crashes which took out several riders.
He had just moved up to eighth when both Bayliss and Haga lapped him.
Roberto Rolfo came in fourth, Regis Laconi was fifth on the PSG-1 Kawasaki and Biaggi was sixth.

HE Sherco 4T four-stroke was first launched in 2005 and Woody tested the first production model just before the Scottish Six Days Trial. It actually performed rather well initially but as the test progressed the model became ever more difficult to start.

Scottish that year did exactly the same, all running into problems. The 4T, which had been put into very limited production, was proving to be a classic example of a bike that had been released before the bugs had been ironed out. The factory accepted this, production was put on indefinite hold and the 4T was entrusted to development guru Josep Paxau. It was not to be put into production again until it was well and truly sorted, would run consistently and start readily from hot or cold...

Yamaha also brought out some fully modified GYT-R TT-Rs and we took some laps on those, too. Modified with handlebar kits and top triple clamps, the riding position can grow with the young ones, or fit the kids-at-heart. There is also a taller seat with cushy foam available (really mushy foam). In the engine department there is a full 88cc kit availible; Yamaha has found this is the best size for power increase and durability—reportedly doubling the output. It ran really good without being too racey, giving the bike a big boost in torque and allowing it to pull gears easily without hesitation, even with heavy adults on the machine. It revs up at about the same speed but winds out farther and freer with the help of a pipe.

In the strengthening department there is the footpeg bracket, footpegs and the aluminum brake pedal. There were a lot of cosmetic items on the bikes, from engine covers to graphics kits to make the bike look even faster. And for the heavier guys or kids who plan to jump the bike, there are heavier springs for the suspension. They make a noticeable difference, but they are not magic. The damping quality of the stock shock and fork need more than just springs to truly work on motocross-type obstacles.

More than 500 race fans attended Friday's test session, billed as Two-Wheel Thunder, and they weren't disappointed as Mladin and Spies clocked identical times of 1:35.70 over the 12-turn, 2.2-mile road course. The time bettered the actual track qualifying record for Superbikes, which Spies owns at 1:35.893 (set in 2006).
The teams were testing in advance of the Kawasaki AMA Superbike Showdown, presented by Supercuts, May 18-20, in the Sonoma Valley.
Spies is the defending AMA Superbike champion, and he also won both rounds of the Superbike doubleheader at Infineon Raceway in 2006. Mladin, meanwhile, is a six-time AMA Superbike champion and holds the record for career Superbike wins in Sonoma with six. The identical times on Friday set the stage for a pretty good showdown in May.

Man Dies After Losing Control Of Motorcycle

A technology specialist at Bedichek Middle School died after he lost control of his motorcycle in Hays County on Tuesday.
It happened at around 9:30 p.m. on Old San Antonio Road, which is two miles north of Manchaca Springs Road.
Benjamin Lombardo, 37, was driving a 2007 Kawasaki motorcycle southbound on Old San Antonio Road, followed by a 1992 Yamaha motorcycle.
Lombardo left the pavement, struck a garbage can and was ejected off his bike. He landed on the northbound lane.
A 1998 Dodge SUV was traveling northbound, struck the motorcycle and then Lombardo, causing fatal injuries.
The Yamaha motorcycle lost control and left the roadway in an effort to avoid the crash.

Batemans Bay was the perfect setting for Round 3 & Round 4 of 2007 Yamaha Australian Off Road Championships.

The format for these 2 rounds were styled similar to a 4 Day Enduro with the bikes being impounded overnight, giving the riders a 10 minutes work period on Saturday afternoon and a 15 minute work period on Sunday morning before the start of Round 4.
There was a strong roll up of 145 riders from across Australia attending the event to gain experience and practice for the 2007 A4DE at Coffs Harbour later this year.
The track provided some interesting racing with the trail loops challenging the best of the best riders with logs, river crossings and tight sections to tackle before heading into the six “special tests” each day.

The top 3 positions in Outright for Round 3 were the usual suspects of AJ Roberts (GHR Honda) in 1st, followed by Brad Williscroft (Motorex Shift KTM) and Ballards Off Road Team rider Chris Hollis in 3rd place.

Round 4 Outright was again AJ Roberts in 1st place and Ballards Off Road Team riders Jarrod Bewley and Chris Hollis taking 2nd & 3rd place.

Overall after the 4 rounds AJ Roberts is leading Outright on 100 points from Brad Willscroft on 84 points in 2nd place and tied in 3rd place is Ballards Off Road Team rider Jarrod Bewley and Chris Hollis follows on 78 points.

In the Championship Veteran class Jason Cater (Ballards Off Road Team) and Stuart Bennett (Husqvarna Racing Team) are battling it out together in this class.

Jason Cater took the win in Round 3 from Stuart Bennett in 2nd place and close by was Garry Dukes in 3rd. In Round 4 the tables were turned with Stuart winning the class from Jason and 3rd place was taken by Jason Salopayevs. Overall Stuart and Jason Cater are tied on 94 points after the 4 rounds with Jason Salopayvers rounding out 3rd place.

Championship Masters Class Geoff Ballard (Ballards Off Road Team) again proved too good, winning Round 3 & Round 4 with Steven Clarke taking 2nd place in each of the rounds and Kerry Jenkins took 3rd place.

Overall Geoff is leading the class after 4 rounds and Steven in 2nd place.

Championship Women’s - Alison Parker riding for Ballards Off Road Team was again on top at both rounds after a bad start in round 3 with a cold start penalty. Leigh Lalonde rode great all weekend taking 2nd place in both rounds and Kellie Jenkins and Rosie Lalonde racing at their first enduro were 3rd place at Round 3 & Round 4.

Overall Parker is leading after round 4 with 100 points from Leigh and Rosie in 2nd & 3rd place.

Round 5 & Round 6 will head to Victoria on Saturday 21st & Sunday 22nd April at Monza Park in Ballarat for a Cross Country Format on Saturday and Sprint Format on Sunday.

“If someone were to ask me to rate my motivation on a scale of 1-to-10, I’d say their scale isn’t big enough,” Mladin said when asked about winning back the Superbike crown he lost to Spies last year.

“Mat (Mladin) is the guy to beat, that’s for sure. The good thing is that everyone has stepped up this year and they’re really closing the gap on us, which is what the fans want to see,” Spies said.

Spies and Mladin were followed by Yamaha’s Jason DiSalvo (1:36.60) and Suzuki’s Tommy Hayden (1:36.70). Kawasaki, Honda, Yamaha, Erion Honda and Corona Honda participated in both days of testing, while Suzuki tested only on Friday. The test was sponsored by Yamaha.

In addition to the AMA testing, race fans were treated to Supermoto USA racing, SB Freaks Freestyle demonstrations and Track Talk with riders Jamie Hacking (Kawasaki), Jake Zemke (Honda), Eric Bostrom (Yamaha) and Spies in the Wine Country Winner’s Circle.

It was also announced that Mladin will be inducted into the Infineon Raceway Wall of Fame when the series returns to the Sonoma Valley in May. Mladin holds the record for career Superbike wins at Infineon Raceway (six) and will join AMA riders Miguel Duhamel and Rich Oliver in the prestigious Wall of Fame.

The Supermoto USA event, which was held behind the main grandstand in the paddock on Friday, was a benefit for local resident Allen Yarrow of Fairfield, who has been diagnosed with cancer. Yarrow is the father of well-known rider and former District One Flatrack champion Casey Yarrow. The event raised nearly $8,000 for the elder Yarrow.

2007 Yamaha Race Training program puts national race teams in pole position

While the third round of the World Superbike Championship was happening at Donington Park in the UK last week, Yamaha were busy making sure that a selection of national race teams from all over Europe were getting the best training to help them maximize the potential of their race bikes, and push for Yamaha race success from Norway to the south of Spain.

For the past five years, Yamaha Europe's Racing Division has run the Yamaha Race Training (YRT); a three day course aimed at providing European Yamaha race teams the opportunity to learn about how to make the most of their R-series race bikes. Within this training Yamaha's best Japanese and European Yamaha Racing engineers help teams with their pre-season preparations and raise the knowledge level in terms of the technical set-up and machine tuning of their YZF-R6 and R1.
This exclusive course is only open to Supersport, Superbike, Endurance and European Superstock teams and covers a series of theoretical seminars as well as three days on circuit riding to put the theory into practice.

In addition to the engineers from Yamaha Racing; expert advice is available from Yamaha's technical partners, such as Öhlins and 2D. Completing the exclusive package is Michelin, who provide tyres and tyre advice throughout the three-day program.

For 2007, YRT was held at the Ricardo Tormo circuit at Valencia between 28th and 30th March. 80 riders in 35 teams from 13 European countries took part, making this no small event to organize.

Valencia's complicated track, excellent facilities and favourable winter weather conditions mean that the circuit is in use for 95% of the year by everything from trucks to Formula One cars, MotoGP to national championship teams. Perhaps because of this, grip levels can be unpredictable causing conditions to change by the hour and requiring constant adjustments to the set-up of the bike ideal for training the teams in best set-up practice.

During the three days, technicians and riders from each team attended seminars that covered key topics, such as:

- A detailed technical presentation of the 2007 R-Series models all the major new technical aspects of the brand new R1 were covered in detail
- 2007 YEC racing parts seminar All the new and modified racing parts, that Yamaha offers under the brand name YEC, were explained in detail to all the teams
- 2007 R1 Fuel injection workshop (incl. YCC-T and YCC-I) in this workshop the teams learnt how to modify their ignition and fuel base settings to match their rider and the track conditions using the YEC ECU and accompanying software
- Engine workshop, including a camshaft-timing seminar
Learning all this theory is one thing, putting it into practice is another. Every rider was designated four sessions a day on the track, in order for them and their technical team to try out what they had been taught in the classroom.
Wet weather during the first day of the event gave the teams the perfect opportunity to practice finding their ideal wet race set-up. On the second and third day the riders could enjoy dry sessions and were able to work towards a competitive basic set up. And with the best lap times of below 1'39.000, it proved that the teams are ready to start competing in their championships.
With the three-day session over it is now down to each individual team to make the most of their training, putting into practice what they have learnt to go for gold in the various championships.

YAMAHA-SPONSORED TEST SESSION SET FOR INFINEON RACEWAY THIS WEEK

SONOMA, California -- For the first time in six years, top AMA riders will be greeted with two days of sunshine at this week’s Yamaha-sponsored test session at Infineon Raceway on Thursday and Friday (April 5-6).
Riders from top manufacturers like Kawasaki, Suzuki, Yamaha and Honda are expected to test the 12-turn, 2.22-mile road course in advance of the Kawasaki AMA Superbike Showdown, presented by Supercuts, May 18-20.
Rain has either canceled or limited the annual two-day test session each year since 2001, but the forecast calls for sunny skies and 70-degree temperatures for the Sonoma Valley. That bodes well for riders like defending AMA Superbike champion and Infineon Raceway champion Ben Spies (Suzuki), six-time AMA Superbike champion Mat Mladin (Suzuki) and nine-time Infineon Raceway winner Miguel Duhamel (Honda).
Other riders expected to test this week include Jamie Hacking and Roger Hayden from Kawasaki, Petaluma High School graduates Eric and Ben Bostrom (Yamaha), San Francisco native Jake Zemke (San Francisco) and Jason Disalvo (Yamaha).
Kawasaki, Yamaha and Honda are scheduled to test both days, while Suzuki will be at Infineon Raceway only on Friday.
The AMA began its season last month at Daytona Beach (Fla.) with Spies winning in both Superbike and Superstock. Roger Hayden led the charge for Kawasaki with a win in Supersport, while Acalanes High School graduate Steve Rapp captured the prestigious Daytona 200. Rapp will not be attending the test session in Sonoma this week.
The second round of the AMA season is set for Birmingham (Ala.), April 20-22, followed by Fontana, April 27-29, before heading to Sonoma.
